Leftover peppermint candy canes?

Don’t get me wrong I love a good peppermint candy cane but 1 or 2 is my limit.

Peppermint choc balls is how you can use up  a portion of them.

  • 350 grams Condensed milk
  • 250 gram Plain sweet biscuits (Marie etc, plain sweetened)
  • 1/4 cup coconut
  • 6-8 candy canes (size depending)
  • 4 tablespoons Cocoa powder.
  • Peppermint essence (optional depends on how minty you want them)
  • 1 1/2 cup Desiccated coconut or non chocolate sprinkles to coat balls.
  • Blitz biscuits and candy canes add cocoa powder and blitz.
  • Stir in 1/4 cup  coconut.
  • Mix condensed milk into the dry ingredients. Pop in fridge for 30 mins.
  • Roll into balls then coat in extra coconut or sprinkles. Keep in fridge.
  • If you don’t wish to roll into balls you can lay on some baking paper, roll then twist ends and slice to serve.

Enjoy the season

No matter where you are in the world I wish you a very happy holiday season.

                                                         Merry Christmas, be safe.

Christmas/ Holiday catch ups.

Are there friends or family you only catch up with once a year and it happens in December?

I have a couple of friends and an Aunty that I write copious amounts of words to but it only seems to happen when I write out their Christmas cards … the whole year condensed into 1 envelope and 1 postage stamp.

My mum usually talks to my Aunty so my Aunty probably knows stuff anyway but in some ways I find it cathartic to write it on paper and pass it along, as in this year is pretty much over.

My friends moved away, one I worked with before I was married and the other a school friend that moves back my way periodically depending on where work sends her.

As you know I like to make my cards and send them on, I just find there is something nice and personal in the written word.

Or do you just get together with various friends once a year for a face to face visit and it seems you have a different friend to meet every other day?

What personal items do you keep in your car?

… and if you keep personal items in your car do you leave them in all year round?

Over here in Australia we have 6 states and 2 territories, 3 of our states and 1 territory get snow but the rest of us are pretty hot states averaging  anywhere between 36°C to 50°C in Summer, throw in humidity or hot dry winds and it gets pretty warm.

Our cars have air con and heating as that’s what they come with, so while we are driving the air con is blasting but when we park our car and more often than not there is no shade, the car can get pretty darn hot in no time flat. How hot you ask, so hot that your seat belt buckle burns through your clothes at your hip, your steering wheel is too hot to touch, gear stick to hot to put into gear and of course your glasses fog up. You sort of get used to it. Poor bubs in car seats and capsules.

So going back to what personal items do you keep in your car, during winter I leave hand cream, lip balms, tic tacs, even chewing gum on occasion.  As Spring to Summer heats up all those items come out of the car, I can tell you a melted chap stick/lip balm is no easy thing to clean out of a door pocket or console. The gum is a melted blob before it even hits your mouth and other items get heat affected. Needless to say my car was cleaned out about a month ago, in Spring, so this very thing won’t happen this year.

Water is a constant every time I get in the car, I NEVER go anywhere without it even in winter. I have a couple of 750ml insulated bottles that stay in the fridge to fill up with water when I go out, even if it’s just down the street to shop.

Yay Summer! It’s already a hot one with some outback places already almost hitting the 50°C mark and Summer has just hit.  I’m lucky I get some bay breezes.

Stay warm if you’re in Winter and stay cool if you’re in Summer.

Decoration storage

Do you have proper storage for your decorations Christmas or otherwise, or do you just wing it like me and use what’s available?

I have the one big click clack storage box that all my containers fit into. I sewed a sack a few years back to tie up and store my Christmas tree in.

As you can see I have a plastic biscuit container, a very large pretzel jar (they were good pretzels), a wafer stick jar and a spinach container that fit most of my breakables/crushables.

Ziplock bags, paper towel and dishcloths are my smaller storage and go betweens.

Do you throw out broken or not liked anymore ornaments? We have more ornaments than we need but I like to mix and match things differently each year so only throw away broken ones.

We don’t have any particular sentimental ornaments. I was happy as long as my boys helped put up the tree, which they did. Taking down the tree and clean up and packing was always left for me.

Outside lights and decorations is the domain of my hubby and as long as it’s not stored in my house spaces I’m happy 🙂
