Shopping Bags – sew your own

I’ve nutted out a shopping bag (green bag, reusable bag) of the likes of Woolworths and Coles here in Australia.

I made this bag from denim fabric I picked up at a local stores half price sale. As it’s only for  groceries I made the bags first then washed and trimmed off cottons, usually for sewing you’d wash the fabric first for any shrinkage.

1 metre X 50 centimetres will make 1 actual bag.

1.2 or 1.3 metres by 10centimetres will make you the strap handles. This measurement varies because it depends on how long you like your handles for carrying. To be honest I don’t  think 2 bags ended up with the exact same handle length so details printed on below photos may vary for this. Use webbing if you wish depends on $.

Once you get the first bag made it’s easy to get more cut out and made production line style. Most of my bags had denim handles I was short for one bag so it has these flowered handles. These bags will wash up nicely and last for ages without getting holes like the bought green bags.

Any questions please ask, it’s hard to explain something that you changed along the way, sometimes it’s easier to show than explain.
