Using old books for cards

I’ll let you know that the first thing you do before using a page out of a book or dictionary is to read what is on that page, you don’t want inappropriate print for the occasion to mar your good work.

Nursery rhyme books are good for kids, poem or verse books good for adults and for men a page from a book of a hobby of theirs (fishing, sport, cars or ?) A copy of a bible verse for religion.

Use a newspaper with a story about your partner/dad/brother favourite sports team or your kids favourite movie review.

My card Dictionary days card is on a dictionary page (I did stamp over the page). My son when leaving school in gr12 gave this card to his English teacher who he got on really well with, she loved that it was a dictionary page.  So with this in mind a great way for a maths or science teacher could be formulas.

If you don’t have a book to tear out from, print from google for the occasion you’re after.  Make it look a little worn and torn by crinkling it up and flattening or ironing it out again.

Cut the pages out neatly for a more formal look or tear them out and several corners, make it ‘rustic’ as the tv chefs say.

These pages also make great flowers whether you use a punch or cut them out by hand or even as petals to assemble.

This can also be used for scrapbooking but if you’re printing from computer remember acid free paper …. unless the paper itself is not touching the photo, then you can use an actual page. You only need acid free paper if the paper is touching the actual photo.

    Hi Kathy,
I am busy trying to visualise this card and having trouble doing so. Can you post a picture of how it is done maybe I will understand what you are saying then. Probably makes perfect sense to someone who makes cards but I really have no experience except for simple folded ard with a picture stuck on the front. And you talk about photo’s —far from my experience.

    Happy Mother’s Day for tomorrow.

And now just I posted the above I saw where you said the photo of this card is to be found. My eyes are not seeing lots of things since I had my cataracts removed. I think I am supposed to have glasses for reading but I find that a real annoyance. Therefore I glance over stuff and miss things. I will go and have a look.

  1. No problems Jennifer. I’ve edited and posted the photo as a hyperlink.
Thank you for the mothers day wishes, I hope yours was a good one as well 🙂
