Notes

Optional is chopped almonds, flax seeds, sunflower seeds.
To be honest I don't usually use a recipe I just throw in what looks good to me on the day.
If you don't like an ingredient leave it out or substitute another. Add more or less of the ingredients, it's a very forgiving recipe. I tend to throw in all of the above.
Toast the crumble on a tray by itself and sprinkle over any stewed fruit you like.
The crumble will freeze (before cooking, nuts and all). If I make to much I put it in a click clack container in the freezer, next time I'll either add more ingredients to it, or make another batch and throw the 2 leftovers together to freeze for another time.
Make a double batch of crumble, use 1 serve and freeze the other for a quick dessert any time. Label it.
I cook my apples to just softened with 1/2 teaspoon sugar. I also use half peaches from a tin.
Serve warm or cold, with ice cream or custard.

Leftover Vegetables

After cleaning out my fridge this morning I discovered little bits of veg, not enough for a meal but too much to throw away, so they end up staying there. I found cauliflower, broccoli, a few beans, a zucchini, and 1/4 of a sweet potato. With my potatoes and carrots I’m never without I will cut and steam them all up.  Transfer vegetables to a heat proof dish.  Pour over some basic white sauce, sprinkle over some grated cheese with some herbs, paprika or cracked pepper.  Pop under a hot griller for approx 5 mins to melt the cheese.  It’s a cheats au gratin.  I’m serving with steaks tonight.  This can be done with any left over cooked veg.

Bra bits

By bra bits I mean those metal or plastic circle or figure 8 pieces that hold or loosen straps, ones no longer in use. They can come in many colourful sizes that match your bra. They are great to use on scrapping pages or cards that you want to highlight a circle portion, or would like to make a belt like accent to thread ribbon/paper through.  You can paint plain ones with nail polish to the colour of your choice ( a bit more fiddly but try painting on plastic, peel bra bit off after you’ve painted to make things easier) .   Along with my ribbons these are something my friends help me collect.  I don’t use a lot of these but it’s nice to have on hand if I decide I need one.

Nail polish

Nail polish is not just for nails.  I buy my plain gold brads or split pins at the stationary store; they are a lot cheaper, in boxes of 100 and in many sizes.  I buy cheap nail polish in various colours and paint the brads. For best results make sure you paint all around the sides (I do this first) then dab the tops and make sure they have time to dry well before using.  I stand them in a piece of polystyrene and paint a few in a row of a few colours and leave overnight.  ** I’ve used clear nail polish as a glossy highlight on a flower for a card or to highlight dots etc on scrapping card to be used (polish is thinner than the proper product so be aware it can spread)  ** There are many more uses for nail polish around the house, to stop a frayed thread, to cover a scratch, on the end of a shoe lace are just a few.

Ribbons

I collect ribbons as do my  friends.  The ribbons that hang a dress in the store but get in the way when you wear them. The ribbons that are on the shoulder of a t-shirt for hanging. The ribbons from presents. They just pop them in a zip loc bag for when they see me.  I started collecting ribbons when I started making cards for donations, this keeps the $ factor down, but still make a nice card to donate.
